Final Subversives

For our last night of speakers, we had the pleasure of having Bruce Mau, Leslie Thomas, Andrew Fenchel, and Robyn Waxman (virtually) in our presence. They inspired us to refine our messaging and to think of effective ways to engage an audience.

  1. this from robyn… she offers us a moving point of view.

    HI Rick,

It was such an honor and privilege to be a part of the Moving Designer’s important work. Thank you so much for seeing the potential of my work in Toledo and how it might affect other designers. I loved our skype session from the tomato patch.

I was talking to my husband after our skype session and he asked me if participating in it was “worth it.” (side note: While I love to speak publicly and share with others, it brings me great anxiety in the days preceding the event, which usually disappears the moment I start speaking…nevertheless, he experiences my pre-freak out first hand!)

My answer to him went something like … and I would like to share it with you …

You don’t know the effect you have — even if just a few degrees of difference — on any individual having the potential of making great change, or passing on the ONE thing that causes someone else to start a greater movement or to ask a larger question. If anything I said inspires the group to potentially contribute to changing the direction of the Chicago River, then HELL YES! But even if no part of our conversation contributes to that important work, it might to something else. Even something as small as having the courage to ask a question about where your money goes, means the work was meaningful.

And in reverse, you and the group will effect my work.

    All the best,
    Robyn
