Pete, this is tremendous! Thanks so much for sharing and for all your work on our city's water issues. Collectively, these videos tell the most cohesive story I've heard. You clearly illustrate OUR challenges and opportunities... and more importantly, why we should give a damn!

Bud, thanks for posting and putting this gem out into the world!

Great! This paints a wonderfully rich and concise picture of Chicago's symbiotic relationship with its waterways leading right up to the issues we face today. Water access for sustenance, sanitation, and transport has always been fundamental to Chicago's development, and this points us to the (often) overlooked fact that we can not sacrifice one for the other.

I have read that the pre-Columbian inhabitants of the area—including Potawatomi, Miami, and Illinois tribes—would portage their canoes between the Des Plaines and Mississippi RIvers, thus recognizing the value this location holds for connecting significant water ways. Unfortunately, proximity and direct unification are two different things entirely.

Time has come and today is the final viewing.

At dusk I'll be removing this last communication in the 7 piece series. Just as our water, our issues, our lake and our river... you can come watch it wash away.

The perfect view is across the street from Wicker Park's Ear Wax cafe. 8:3p-sih.

HI Rick,

It was such an honor and privilege to be a part of the Moving Designer's important work. Thank you so much for seeing the potential of my work in Toledo and how it might affect other designers. I loved our skype session from the tomato patch.

I was talking to my husband after our skype session and he asked me if participating in it was "worth it." (side note: While I love to speak publicly and share with others, it brings me great anxiety in the days preceding the event, which usually disappears the moment I start speaking...nevertheless, he experiences my pre-freak out first hand!)

My answer to him went something like ... and I would like to share it with you ...

You don't know the effect you have — even if just a few degrees of difference — on any individual having the potential of making great change, or passing on the ONE thing that causes someone else to start a greater movement or to ask a larger question. If anything I said inspires the group to potentially contribute to changing the direction of the Chicago River, then HELL YES! But even if no part of our conversation contributes to that important work, it might to something else. Even something as small as having the courage to ask a question about where your money goes, means the work was meaningful.

And in reverse, you and the group will effect my work.

All the best,
Robyn

Only the son of a commercial pilot could deliver us to the Gulf with this joy ride. I must admit, however, for all the nauseating pitch and yaw twists and turns, the rowdy passage from here to there is timid compared to what happens each and every day to the Great Lakes... Brilliant!

This video is so great. I had forgotten about what kind of a role fountains play in cities and in our life. Your photos of people gathering around water as a celebration offer up an image of how important water is.
