QR CITY SAVIOR

While researching the function of QR Codes, it became apparent that they do not add extra content to the world, they only add an extra layer/way of further exploration for products. For instance, a poster about UofI may have a QR code that links you to the schools homepage, or a gravestone with a QR code will link you to information about the person whose grave site you are visiting. You can basically say that they are used to make a GOOD experience better.

However, what i set out to do was to add to this conversation in a new way, by implementing QR codes in a way that makes BAD experiences better. What i devised is a new 911 so to say, where QR codes will be placed throughout the city, which will be a method of reporting crime that happens.

This “silent” call for help, will change the manner in which disputes are reported and thus responded to. This method eliminates a persons need  to verbally report a crime. which can endanger them, if the person committing the crime hears them. Also, it gives the police a more accurate description of where the crime is taking place, instead of having to deal with frazzled victims who may have a hard time understanding where they are.

On another level, this system can be used to create a visual map of crimes throughout the city, as a warning to those who may be visiting those areas. For instance, these QR codes can be implemented into google maps, which will show you how many crimes have been reported via QR codes in a specific area.
